Accommodation and Camping for the ClimbfestA few people have asked about where tents can be pitched the weekend of the climbfest. There's a small campsite near the pier in Culdaff. It's great in dry weather but a bit damp if it's rainy (that sounds obvious, but what I mean is that it's not sand duney - it's sort of grassy). This is very handy for the climbing. There's a hotel called McGrory's. I've put a link on the homepage. There are other guest houses around, too. There are sand dunes by the beaches of Culdaff, but there are also "no camping" signs. I'd guess that careful siting of a tent would be unobtrusive and ignored, but not entirely kosher. We have previously camped with no problems near Dunmore Head. This too is grassy and a bit damp underfoot. Very handy for climbing though. Columba has kindly offered his basement. This has separate access from the main house and could accommodate plenty of roll mats on a concrete floor - no tent needed. Guests will need to have usual camping necessities. He is not offering cooking facilities. There is car parking space and a separate entrance. An outside flush toilet is available so no ducking behind a bush. Plenty of drinking water is available but you need to bring your own beer. It's near Carndonagh, about 5 miles from Culdaff, and very handy for the whole of Inishowen peninsula (see map). I can provide his telephone number if you would like to arrange to stay there. Email me. Further accomodation details
I'll add any more info as it becomes available. |
