Report on Crolly 15th Dec 2001

James Boyle (and Pat Greene)

Why do I write reports while I’m hungover? Urrrggghhh…. Anyway, here goes.....Myself and Pat had decided to get a bit of stuff done over the weekend, so after a 'phone call to “Mad Dog” it was decreed that the crag in Crolly was the place to be. I live less than 10 minutes drive from the crag, and for some reason, have never been to it, found out what routes are there, what grades are there etc. Luckily Frankie was able to help out by consulting the crag encyclopaedia he keeps in his head.

So it was decided: We were to top rope some mad E1 5b/5c thing, and then suss out what was there for me to lead. When we got there I set up a top-rope and we abseiled off to the bottom. We actually stuck to this one route for about 2 hours, and I made 3 attempts before I was happy - I fell off a few times, you see. We never got anything done after this , due to the short days so we decided to do some indoor climbing of the bar-stool variety and sauntered off down to Paddy Og’s for a pint. Which led me on the road to a throbbing head. It’s a nice crag, but it doesn’t have a lot of routes on it - I’ll definitely be back because of its location, but I understand why it doesn’t get a lot of traffic. I need to get a guide book to identify the routes too. It’s only about 12m high. More bouldering than anything else. Anyway, I’m going back to bed. See youse later, James.
