CLIMBERS

Columba McLaughlin Saturday 4th August 2001 Galavoir Point

As we had some unfinished business from last year, Noel (Me Bro) and I (Columba McLaughlin) went to the Jura Wall at Galavoir Point in Inishowen. Firstly, we completed a better finish to Two days to go V.Diff (this route is cleaned now and takes the twin cracks and up the left corner of the small Square Cut buttress about 10 metres to the right of the main wall). However, Wee Butt Direct (up the centre of the top block) awaits the technical master.

We then went to the main wall and explored a deep recess / corner to the left of Andrew's Route. This on first inspection was a very dirty corner. While Alan (El Pres.) & Co. swam in the deep blue sea and Marty roared with delight, Noel and I cleaned and then climbed 2 new routes. These were Jurassic (Diff.) which takes the left corner in the recess. The other climb was Jura Cráic (V.Diff) - this takes an off-width crack up the centre of the left wall. Like most climbs of the grade, both suffer from lack of solid protection. Nonetheless, both provide entertaining routes to the top of the wall. Home afterwards to a big wash and the amber nectar.
