Kinnego Bay Climbing Trip

19th July 2001. Report by James "Psyclone" Boyle.

Well, it kinda looks like Pete is trying to push me into a bit of report-writing here. I, er, don't quite know what to say. In fact, I don't know what I'm saying, cos I'm not saying it. Pete's putting words in my mouth, actually, Pete's writing the report. Oh dear, I wish I'd just written it mesell cos he could write anything and I wouldn't even get a chance to defend myself in public. Oops, I wish I had been a bit more forthcoming with my log book entries.

Here goes, s'pose I'd better get on with it. Pete, and Andy (McInroy) and me all went to Kinnego Bay. Only Pete had ever climbed there before so Andy and I didn't know what treats were in store for us. Andy started off with a fearless ascent of the classic, three star, Forked Lightning VS 4c . There have been times (since my spectacular head-first supersonic descent at Cruit - see report) when I've wondered if climbing is worth the candle; whether, perhaps, I'd be better off sitting in my dingy student digs with my feet in a Boots foot spa and my hands occupied with a nice bit of needlepoint. Today, my doubts were laid to rest, a climber I am and a climber I shall be, it's the life of a climber for me, tra-la. Forked Lightning is so extravagantly brilliant that even I will be able to remember climbing it.

Pete then led Die Wrecked Sev, and I led Pattoned VD. This latter route was a superb varied climb at the grade and gave me such a buzz that I will soon be back at the 4c/5a on-sights that I used to tackle so readily. Unfortunately, our time was used up with boulder-hopping etc., and we had to make tracks after this climb. A very pleasant pint was had in Rosato's and we all went home to bed.
