CLIMBERS

Icefest 2002 Alpine Ice Climbing

Alan and Bill go to the Alps for some Solid Water Climbing

Barnacle Bill Leclerc Gigot & El Presidente, Alan Tees, represented Colmcille Climbers at the Peglar Icefest at Bourg D Oisans, France in January 2002.

Le ice was magnifique , and le grub, ooh-la-la! During the week the bold pair vandalized the following routes:
Catageus . IV- 4 pitches [Photo of Bill Climbing Catageus]

Colere De Ciel III+ 8 pitches [Photo of a climber (may be Bill) on Colere de Ciel]

Sheugh Sauvage IV 4 pitches

Unknown (St. Christophe) 1 pitch [A photo of a huge "motorway" of ice]

Garotte De Martinez IV 1 pitch

Consistently low temperatures and non existent precipitation meant that the waterfalls in the valley had never been in better condition, but the snow and ice routes in the mountains were simply not there.
The weather was superb with blue skies all day, no wind, and Peglars supplied free drink and all sorts of fancy gear to try out. Protection was ice screws only.
Any takers for next year?
