CLIMBERS

Pete Smith. Kinnego Bay, Donegal. 23rd April 2002.

Hee, hee, hee, I chuckled to myself as I sent _Psyclone [ClickHere for his page] up Protestant Backlash at Kinnego Bay. "It's only a hard severe. It's tricky but no match for you Psyke", I assured him. Of course, I was forgetting that I would have to follow him up it. Between us we took over an hour to do a 10m route. Not an auspicious start to the evening and I reminded myself (not for the first time) never to get involved with this route again.

Alan Tees had arrived with son Peter by this time and they were just wrapping up on Forked Lightning by the time we got there. I took the lead and scooted up to the ledgy bit in the middle but was so tired by then that I stood for at least 10 minutes to get my breath back. _Psyke [ClickHere for his page] was pretty quick about it and immediately started his habitual refrain - "I could lead that, no bother".

(Late breaking news, I have heard since that _Psyke has indeed been back for a brave assault on Forked Lightning. Reports are filtering through that he made the ascent with no serious problems and placed three pieces of gear in the 20m line.)
