Colmcille Climbers (and some extras) at Lough Belshade 29th April 2000
What a smashing idea! Let's go to the most beautiful spot in Donegal and do a few routes. What we didn't bargain for was 26 inches of precipitation. To put that in English......it was blooody laggin' down all day.
Here's the report. Columba McLaughlin, Anthony Feeney, Pete Smith and (wait for it) Michael (aged 6) and Colm (aged 7) set off for L. Belshade. Parked the car in the pissing rain. Changed in the pissing rain. Walked for two and half hours in the pissing rain. Carried waens in the pissing rain. Ate sandwiches in the pissing rain. Walked another hour in the....
Finally, we wrapped up the young uns and got to Blaeberry crag in the pissing rain. Columba's enthusiasm knew no bounds, he was all set to lead Waterloo S 3c. Rather appropriate, in the conditions, that he should choose a route called Waterloo with water and shiite pissing down it.
We tried to warn him that the route was long, wandering and difficult to find, but Columba the Lionheart laughs in the face of fear and tweaks terror on the nose. (It's a pity the silly git also kicked wisdom in the nuts!)
Once we'd rescued him, we walked back to the car (two and a quarter hours through the bog in the pissing rain).
Er....that's it.......we were wet and knackered.
