Pete Smith and Rodney Moore at Bunagee, Culdaff. 5th July 2000 Rodders and I turned up at the lay-by for a trip to Lough Barra. The weather was fine, but iffy-looking. As there was no-one else there, and rainclouds stacked up to the west, we agreed to go to Culdaff instead. I had memories, from only two weeks previously, of driving all the way to L. Barra to find it bucketing with rain. Rodders had a notion to do a few, brand-new (for him) routes, so he repeated Swear Box HVS 5a (formerly known as Lutine Bell). This Alan Tees route is an inauspicious line in the Himalayas section. It has a spiteful lay-back crack in the middle, which offers 3 or 4 first class moves. Rodders vowed never to repeat a new Alan Tees route! I retreated off Carthage, because it seemed to be moving a lot more than last time I led it. Rodders led Bawg into the Oxtars, Sor VS 4c, and pronounced it an excellent route.....2, maybe 3, stars. I led Blondes have more fun VS 4c. The grassy top-out put Rodders off leading Kerry Widow so we went for a pint in McGrory's. |
