Dunowen - 23rd June 1999
I had just received an invitation to join the legendary Alan Tees and others in a few climbs in Dunowen area of Culdaff. I was quaking in my boots. You don't say NO to the Máister. Off we went and headed immediately for Brazil Rock. An amazing obelisk rock tower at the far end of Pinnacle Bay. Alan led off on 'Broadbinn's Emporium' (S) with me belaying and following second.
Pete and Rodney (Rodders) joined us and they flew up 'The Hustler' (HS). Alan then led 'Cap Gun Corner' (S) with me belaying and following up second. Meanwhile Pete and Rodders tackled 'Broadbinn's Emporium'. Alan then led 'The Hustler' a superb climb with an interesting exit. Pete and Rodders then took off to climb the 3 star 'Bawg it in up to oxters, Sur' (VS 4c). We joined them and Alan led it. Unfortunately, I was unable to gain the overhanging crack. Pete wanted a bit of additional exercise and climbed 'Himalayan Dream' (HS). We then retired to the Mac's Backroom for a well deserved pint and reflection. A good evening's cráic was had by all.
