Dunmore Head - Sunday 27th August 2000
(Alan's Bar-B-Que)
Columba McLaughlin Well, if nobody is going to write a report, I might as well give it a bash. I was on baby watching duties. So Sionainn (the baby) decided that she wanted to go to the beach. Who was I to argue with a 3-year-old and I dutifully headed for Culdaff. It was a glorious day with the sun shining and the beach was packed with visitors. I got out my binoculars and surveyed the crag. There were a large number of spectators watching the Colmcillers doing their bit on the different routes. So reluctantly Sionainn and I went to play on the swings and stroll along the beach. After a bit the call of the crag was too much and curiosity got the better of me. So off we went to the crag. There were so many spectators that it was hard to get parking spot. Also, there were so many of the club's members present that it would be easier to count those that weren't there. The crag was busy (see photo). Alan was leading 'Diversion' with Andrew belaying. Martin McGuigan was soloing here, there and everywhere or else he had ants in his pants. He eventually followed Alan up Diversion. Phil Magill was leading 'Absent Friends V' and Anthony Feeney was belaying him. Meanwhile, auld 'bawg intae the oxtars' (Frankie) was leading 'Bird's Nest Bulge'. However, I don't know who was seconding him. Stewart was sporting hair (I didn't know that he had any!) or else it was a wig and he also had a new jacket. Alan Millar (Aul Mullah) soloed 'Belfast Blitz Boys' and descended the SRS slab (good job Chris Ryan didn't see this). Rodders, in preparation for his trip to the dizzy heights of the Khumbu Valley in Nepal, was building up to do 'Fluid Inclusions'. Then a John Lennon look alike appeared. Nope it wasn't, it was our one and only Sally. She said that she was in disguise. I took a few photos as Stewpot was too busy looking good. After a while Sionainn and I reluctantly left the crag. Well I had to get in form for the beer and BBQ and the next day's climbing (see report). If there is anybody that I left out in this report, well I didn't see yease. Slán go fóill, Columba |
