Colmcille Climbers at Dunmore Head 6th June 2000 Just to fill youse in. Ronnie Smith, Frankie McCloskey and myself headed off for Culdaff. Ronnie led Shining Cossacks HVs 5a (for a warm-up he says), with Frankie and me seconding on a line each. Frankie then lead Grecian Gift VS with myself on second and then Ronnie DANCING up the rock. Next on the hit list was 10CC E1 (pic of route). At this point a late but welcome appearance by Alan Tees was put in, and I was hauled off through the jungle (over to the left hand crag) to do two routes I had never seen before. Leading the first one, Tiger Balm Severe, Alan, almost reaching the top, was screamed at by a seagull sitting on eggs. A sling was put in place and he was lowered off. I climbed the route on this improvised top rope. Ipulled over the crux and stopped to gain breath only to be screamed at by same bird in a more violent manner. I almost took a blinder. The Clegg HVS was climbed on the same top rope by both of us but only to a point above the crux so as not to disturb the bird again. For a final route Bird's Nest Bulge HS was done. I believe Frankie lead Peapob VS for a final route, although Ronnie was doing a fair bit of soloing. |
