Galavoir Point (aka Glengad Head) 29th
August 2000. Pete Smith.
Yep. Me again, it's a good job you never tire of my style (if you did, you'd write some reports yourself)! Tuesday the 29th August was a fine day and Colmcille Climbers did it justice - two of us turned up for the planned trip to Glengad Head, Michael McGinty and yours truly. We had a great time and yeese all missed it. Michael led Salty Dog S, and took about 2 minutes 30 seconds to do it. I led the diminutive, but interesting, Clawhammer before Michael made quick work of Raw Hand. This latter route is so short that it doesn't get anything but a 4c technical grade; however, it has found out some notable climbers. Mikey wasn't one of them - he made it look like a 4a problem at a climbing wall (shame, because I thought it would be quite good fun talking him up it). We decided to fit up a top-rope on True Grit HVS, as Michael was put off by the fierce exit lay-back (and I certainly had no aspirations to lead it). While doing this a school (flock? herd? shoal?) of dolphins swam past, which was a great sight - about 30 odd cetaceans (good eh?) leaping and splashing on their sedate journey to Newfoundland (Michael said that's where they were going and I believed him). Next Michael led Golly's Route - name unremembered - to the left of the Elephant's Ear and we bolted for the car in failing light before scooting to McGrory's for a pint of the dark.
