Colmcille Climbers

Fairhead with Kieran (Golly) Gallagher. 16th July 2000

Frazier led both pitches of Hell's Kitchen HVS [Hell's Kitchen Pic] in fine style, wee buns after 10 days of climbing 5B+ on bolts in Spain, seconded by Ian Chestnutt. Golly put his balls in his chalk bag (as you have to at Fairhead) and decided to lead Black Thief VS 4b, (what a buzz), seconded by Martin Ryan. Late arrival Phil Magill led both pitches of Chieftain VS 4b, seconded by Golly. Who needs Spain when you can climb on sun-kissed rock at Fairhead?

Jason Frazer's Report. On sunday the 16th of July a single E man and a few potentials headed off to that lovely place, Fairhead. Me and Marty Ryan (at long last, Marty was beginning to think the place didnt exist). We were joined by Ian Chestnutt, who had the scares of being lunch for a thousand midgies from the day's climbing on Saturday, along with Golly.

So I have been dying to lead Hell's Kitchen all year, well in fact it was my goal set at the start of the season to lead both pitches and not take as long as Rodney, because I hate taking a razor and overnight bag onto a route [poem]. It felt great. But a bit bloody freezing as the sun was hiding around the corner. Seconded by Ian, gracefully, I might add.

Marty and Golly were off on the Black Thief giving it all they've got. Pleasantly I was met by Marty at the top of Hell's KItchen looking rather pumped out but with a happy and grateful smile that said, "this place scares the shit out of me, but I can handle it." So after Marty finished rolling in sheep shit we left Golly and Phil on the The Chieftian VS 4b 4b with Ian spectating.
