Colmcille Climbers

Muckross Head 24th June 2000

Frazer, Donna Ryan, Marti Ryan, Ian, Amy and myself (Al Millar) went to Muckross on Saturday and the following routes were climbed:
Froth HS, Boho Dance S, Bombay Duck S, Tricky Dicky VS, Morning Glory HS and Joy of Frogs HVS 4c

My cousin Ian, visiting from Canada, enjoyed his first day's climbing immensely and assured me that the terror was an integral part of his pleasure. Among other routes he followed without blemish Morning Glory, taking a highly unlikely looking line up through the overhangs and is way out there, with plenty of space between the legs.
Frazer climbed everywhere but Tricky Dicky while doing Tricky Dicky, then finished up Cois Farraige and upgraded both climbs by two grades when he appeared at the top. Donna upgraded all the routes she did by a grade as well, but agreed with me that Headlands is a brilliant exposed and varied HS, a must for any tick list at that grade; it traverses over the huge cave and finishing more steeply up the fine crack. By this point Marti had disappeared round the corner with Frazer to do Bombay Duck in secret and returned smiling some time later. The wife then told him to lead Boho dance which he dutifully did.

Meanwhile the migratory patterns of the lesser spotted Black African Frazer made their way over to Joy of Frogs. Like many a person before him he was exhilarated by the moves up the wall to the break and a pleasant day's cragging came to an end, apart from Amy who ate some green slime and turned into the hulk and started soloing all the harder routes on sight.
