Saturday 20th May, Fairhead Frasier, Donna Ryan, Big Al and myself went to Fairhead (surprise, surprise!). Despite the miserable weather and lack of enthusiasm from Donna, Frasier and I, the damp and coldness just made Al more determined to climb! After a group meeting we agreed to humour Al and inspect the prow and to our surprise (especially Donna's, who represented our pessimism!) the rock was climbable (well just about!) Al, enthusiastic as ever, was first on the rock, leading a route at the far left of the prow Mongrel Fox E1 5b, in less than ideal conditions. I the led the brilliant Midnight cruiser E1 5b. Al as usual had the last word leading Simple Minds, a short but brutal E1 5b at the right of the prow, in the pouring rain! Frasier led a difficult HS at the right of the prow (sorry, don't know the name). Despite initial pessimism a good day was had by all (especially Al) proving, once again, that Fairhead is the best crag in the world! |
