Colmcille Climbers

Jason Frazer spends Easter in Sheffield
EASTER BREAK IN SHEFFIELD At Easter I had the good fortune of having a week off. I have always been threatening a visit across the water to my old and long haired mate, Paul Dunlop [potchen]. I have always heard that Sheffield was a great place to go climbing, from a few reliable sources (and from Rodders).

Paul took me to a crag in the Peak District called Stanage [pic]. Never before have I climbed on grit, so it was a challenge and a new adventure. The word that described it best for me was, ELEPHANT BUM, holds that is. A great experience and good crack.

The routes we did are as follows Queersville HVS 5a; Hollybush Crack VD; Christmas Crack HS; April Crack HS 4b; Hargreaves Original Route VS4c; Castle Crack HS 4a. All these routes are 2 stars and more; highly recommended if you're ever in the area.

We seemed to have had a fixation with cracks that day, dont ask! The next day we went to a place called Curbar Edge, a great little crag. Grimer and Dave, if I remember rightly, accompanied us that day and were off in the distance doing some E6. We managed to do The Brain VS 4c which has a great laybacking flake at the top. Also, Two pitch route VS 4c [pic], great route with some serious hand jamming. I also led some other route, but cannot rightly remember its name.

So a good time was had by all and it was nice to see a few old heads and a few new ones.
