Gill to Heavy Rest. Colmcille Climbers' Club Slide show 11th January 2001
Alan Tees had been
inveigled and cajoled into presenting a slideshow to the members of Colmcille
Climbers. He was a bit surprised when BBC Radio Foyle rang him on the morning
of the event to interview him about his intentions! Columba McLaughlin, the
Hon. Press Officer, had done such a good job with his PR that the slideshow
was in danger of becoming an internationally famous occurrence. However, this
didn't prevent a turnout of about 20 people to hear El Presidente make his
presentation.
Surely no-one in Derry can have done more mountaineering than Alan Tees (and that includes Donna Ryan)? This man was able to chat knowledgeably, unself-consciously and, yet, modestly about his exploits in Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Nepal, Spain, the High Tetras, the Rockies and Switzerland. Next on his hit-list is Bolivia. Make no mistake, Alan Tees is a one-man mountaineering tour de force! If he wasn't president already there'd be a coup d'etat. |
