Minutes Of Colmcille Climbing Club Meeting

City Hotel, Derry, Sept 10th 2008

Discussed:

Whilst the premise of the meeting was to propose a meetings list for the winter months, we discussed.a number of other issues. Foremost among these was the fact that the summer timetable hadn't been adhered to, with members tending to do their own thing and making last minute plans or changes. Everybody, especially those with children, felt that it was impossible to get out climbing every weekend anyway so come the summer months we may reduce the meets list to fortnightly or even monthly. That way everybody can still do their individual thing on a weekly basis but there are still opportunities to do things together as a club, e.g. the hugely popular Gola weekends.

However, in order to enhance the chances of getting out on a weekend when you find yourself free, we proposed updating the website's contact list. Anthony will be sending out an email asking for up to date mobile numbers and email addresses. We'll most likely hide the new contacts page behind a password on the website to keep these details as private as possible.

Winter Meets List 2008 / 2009:

We've listed meeting dates up until the Xmas dinner (in January) and we'll most likely add dates after the AGM and coming into the New Year, but this lot should keep us busy till then. Incidentally the Xmas dinner is going to be a well planned lavish affair, with tuxedos and dresses essential. NOT! We'll probably dress up a little and go to a restaurant this year, because we meet too often in the Goretex and fleece.

Anyway to get to the meets list:

14th Sep - Mullaghmore (just north of Sligo near Cliffoney) - contact Valli

21st Sep - Culdaff (we don't go often enough!)

27th Sep - Alan is taking scouts to Barnamore, anyone want to help out contact him.

26th - 29th Sep - Scotland trip, Glencoe. So far Anthony, George, PJ, Pete, Mike and possibly Martin Bonar are going. Get in touch with any of these people if you fancy coming along.

4th Oct - Lough Barra, Bingorms - contact Rosie

11th Oct - MCI annual get together in Macroom, Co. Cork. Long way away but...

18th Oct - Bouldering at Breasty Bay, near Malin Head. We also plan to hold the AGM this evening in McGrory's pub Culdaff and will be doing a slide show on the year's big trips including Panpatia and the Matterhorn. Bet you can't wait!

15th or 16th Nov - Poison Glen, possibly climbing or scrambling. More likely just getting Wet & Dirty.

20th Dec - Xmas abseil at Derrygonnelly - the usual fancy dress shenanigans. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a beer or 2 afterwards.

17th Jan - Xmas dinner. Venue to be decided but Spice in Waterside hot favourite.

Membership fees:

We also discussed membership fees and the benefits of actually being a member. Anthony has a list of about 100 email addresses that he sends out information to, but this doesn't tally at all with the number of people who paid fees last year. We have a proposal to cut down the email list to paying members but we'll discuss this further at the AGM. Anthony points out that if you don't pay fees you aren't covered by MCI insurance.
